The Southern Georgia
Area Agency on Aging (AAA)

The Southern Georgia AAA develops, provides and coordinates programs and services for older individuals, at-risk adults, and persons with disabilities in an 18-county region including Atkinson, Bacon, Ben Hill, Berrien, Brantley, Brooks, Charlton, Clinch, Coffee, Cook, Echols, Irwin, Lanier, Lowndes, Pierce, Tift, Turner and Ware Counties.

The AAA is located in Waycross, Georgia, and is a division of the Southern Georgia Regional Commission.

Gateway & ADRC Aging and Disability Resource Connection

The heart of the AAA is its Gateway to Community Resources which is made up of a highly-skilled group of nurses and social workers who provide intake and assistance with accessing community resources and services.

Gateway has been designated as an ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource Connection), part of a nationwide effort to restructure services and supports for older adults and persons with disabilities.

 Did You Know?

4  September is National Senior Center
        Month!

September has been designated as National Senior Center Month in honor of the many seniors who benefit from the centers and in honor of the many workers and volunteers who make senior centers possible.

During this special month, the Southern Georgia AAA will hold special events to recognize and celebrate the lives of our seniors.

If you're a senior, celebrate your special month by connecting with a senior center and enjoy the special activities available to you there.

In celebration of National Senior Center Month in September, CVS/pharmacy, the national sponsor for NCOA’s National Institute of Senior Centers (NISC), is offering seniors an exclusive savings pass to use at CVS stores from September 1 - October 15. CVS also is inviting seniors to sign up for a flu shot starting Sept. 1.

4  Long-Term Care Strategies Aimed at
       Keeping Individuals in Communities -
       and Out of Nursing Homes

The National Association of State Units on Aging (NASUA) and the National Association of Area Agencies on Aging (n4a) have developed a coordinated national long-term care strategy designed to generate savings in Medicaid and Medicare while enabling older adults and individuals with disabilities to receive the support they need in their own homes and communities.
