Rural Public Transit
Several counties within the SGRC region offer
transportation services to their citizens. These
services are offered for different target groups and are
funded by several different sources.
Section 5311 Rural Public Transportation
- Offered to all citizens
- Affordable transportation
- Operates on demand/response basis
- Requires 24 hour notification to schedule ride
- Transportation within local county and into
neighboring counties throughout region

- All utilitze TPO's (Third Party Operators)
- All operate at the same rate
Rate Schedule
- $3 in County up to 10 mi.
- $5 in County over 10 mi.
- $5 flat rate and $.50/mi. for each additional mile
outside of the County of origin.
Pierce Co.
Rate Schedule (applies to one way trips, example: rides
from home to store $4 - store to home $4)
- $4 for first 10 mi.
- $6 between 10 and 25 mi.
- $13 between 25 and 50 mi.
- $20 between 50 and 100 mi.
Tift Co.
- $2 up to 3 mi.
- $3 from 3-5 mi.
- $4 from 5 mi. and over

Human Services Transit
Department of Human Services (DHS)
- Provides services in 18 counties
- 24 hours/ 7 days a week service
- Services include transporting Seniors (age 60 and above) to and
from Senior Centers
- Picked up at home
- Transported to Center
- Transported back to home
- Services ordered by site manager at senior center from each
county
Department of Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities
(DBHDD)
- Provided in Brooks, Cook, Turner, and Lowndes Counties
- Services include transporting clients to and from Service
Centers
- Picked up at home
- Transported to Center
- Transported back to home
TANF
- Clients are screened for eligibility through their human
resource provider
- Eligible clients will be transported whenever services have been
authorized by human resource provider
- No age limit
TANF/SA (substance abuse)
- Provided to clients attending substance abuse and treatment
facilities
- Clients approved by human resource provider
- Trips ordered by authorized staff of treatment facility
- Services and authorization same as TANF trips
