Transportation Enhancement Projects (TE)

TE projects are projects or activities that add community or environmental value to surface transportation projects. TE is not a grant program but is a reimbursement program. In the past the program has funded projects including walking and biking trails, streetscaping, historic preservation of transportation facilities and preservation of scenic sites and byways. Under this program, 80 percent of the project's total cost is funded with the local sponsor funding the remainder. However, due to the limited availability of funds, this program is a very competitive program.

Scenic Byways Program

The Scenic Byways Program is a grassroots program that can provide funding for construction of facilities such as railheads, multi-use paths, or way-finding signage along scenic highways. Currently there are no Georgia Scenic Byways in the Southern Georgia region. Perhaps your community can be the first!

Safe Routes to School (SRTS)

The SRTS Program is funded at $612 million and provides Federal-aid highway funds to State Departments of Transportation (DOTs) over five Federal fiscal years (FY2005-2009), in accordance with a formula specified in the legislation. The Georgia Department of Transportation will be receiving approximately a total of $16.8 million through the federal fiscal year 2009, $3.7 million for 2005-2006. These funds are available through a competitive application process for infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects, and to administer State Safe Routes to School programs that benefit elementary and middle school children in grades K-8. The Federal-aid SRTS Program is administered by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) Office of Safety.
