Traffic Data
The VLMPO works with local jurisdictions and the
Georgia DOT to obtain traffic count, or volume and
vehicle classification data, and crash data. This data
is collected through several methods but all comes
together to provide decision makers with key pieces of
data that are used to determine project priorities and
needs.
Traffic counts are collected throughout the community
and tell transportation planners a lot about the travel
patterns of region. Traffic counts can be used to
collect various levels of data including raw traffic
volumes, average speed, peak hour, and vehicle
classification. This data is used in the travel demand
modeling process and in corridor studies as well as
project engineering and design. This data aids planners
in identifying traffic patterns in the community and
recommending needed improvements or policy changes.
